Gun Range

The Chanute Police Department Firearms Park opened to the public on April 15, 2012. There are currently 10 lanes set up for targets. The Firearms Park allows for handguns, shotguns, and rifles to be shot at a distance of 100 yards and under. 


The range is open from 9:00 a.m. to sun down with the following schedule:

This could change to accommodate the needs of the Chanute Police Department.


The Firearms Range is Closed whenever the farm ground around the range is being worked.


The Firearms Range has one pistol shooting lane which is designated for handicap use. Any member/guest may use this lane when it is not in use by a person requiring this station.


Membership fees for gun range use

  • $45 per person
  • $55 per family/household members

Range Members may allow guests with them at the range. Guest costs are $10 per person per day, and guests must fill out an application before responding to the range. Card holding members are responsible for the actions of their guest. Guests will follow the range rules and instructions of the card-holding member hosting them.


All members/guests MUST report to the Chanute 911 Dispatch Center by calling 620-431-5768 or by picking up the phone in the south lobby of the Chanute Police Department, located in the south end of the Memorial Building. 


Safety is our #1 priority. If anyone observes an unsafe condition while at the Firearms Park, immediately call for firing to cease. Report safety violations by calling an on-duty Shift Supervisor at 620-431-5768. If Emergency Personnel is needed to respond to the Firearms Park, call (620) 431-5768 or 911.


When the member is finished at the Firearms Park, they must pick up any waste items and dispose of them in the dumpster. Upon leaving the Firearms Park, they must lock the gate behind them and return the key to the Police Department lobby.
