The Gas Distribution Department provides gas distribution system installation, maintenance, and repair of all piping, pressure controlling, and metering from city gate stations to the customer’s property line.

Services
The Gas Distribution Department offers gas system surveying for all distribution lines and customer service lines from the right of way to the customer’s building entry point. The Gas Distribution Department also:

• Conducts gas leak investigations
• Locates gas utility lines for excavation needs
• Provides emergency response service to its customers 

Operator Qualifications
Construction crews are Department of Transportation qualified per Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration standards. All personnel are qualified for gas leak investigation and emergency response. Meter maintenance technicians ensure accuracy in gas measurement.

In-House Work
Complete system-wide leak surveying and underground pipe locating is done in-house. All new construction, replacement, and maintenance work done in-house is for the lowest cost to the customer. 
  


In 2016, the City of Chanute's Gas Utility earned the prestigious System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) award from the American Public Gas Association (APGA) for excellence in operating its natural gas utility.  See the Press Release here.
